Board Member

Prof. Hon Ming Lam

Professor Hon-Ming Lam's main research areas include climate-smart agriculture, agrobiotechnology, and the genomics of crop-environment interactions. He is a pioneer in the international soybean genome research with more than 230 publications in international academic journals, including Nature, The Lancet, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Nature Plants, and PNAS.

Professor Lam’s work has been recognized by several awards including the Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (2025), the Leader of the Year (2023), the Medal of Honour from HKSAR government (2023), the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Award 2016 (Science and Technology; Second Class) from the Ministry of Education of PRC (2017), the Second-Class Award for Science and Technology from Zhejiang Province (2007), and the Second- Class Award for Scientific and Technological Achievements from Beijing (2001).

Professor Lam has collaborated with scientists in Gansu to successfully develop five stress tolerant soybeans, which have been approved for use by farmers in Northwest China. He also worked with Shanxi to develop a forage soybean cultivar, which has been approved by the Shanxi province. To promote climate-smart agriculture in response to global climate challenges, Professor Lam is advancing global collaboration and has initiated soybean cultivation projects in South Africa, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. He is also passionate about popular science and value education, having conducted nearly 200 lectures for primary and secondary school students.
